Did someone say they were working on a new History of Talossa? Any progress?

Welcome aboard, Eoin! Why don't you start such a project? Many people could help you, I'm sure. And we'd like you to participate in the Talossan Cultural Contest too. Please don't forget to post in the Getting to Know You thread.

Did someone say they were working on a new History of Talossa? Any progress? Perhaps those of us who are not citizens of any Talossan state might be the best ones to take the lead on this project, at least at first -- with a lot of help from Talossans, of course. I can see it now, though - the more vocal people on both sides claiming it is biased if the other side wrote it. This would be a good way to stop that from happening before it starts. I'd be willing to work on the project, with the caveat that I am currently a junior in high school slaving away at earning my IB diploma and as such don't necessarily have all that much time at my disposal. (I hope it's fine if non-Talossans post here as long as the topics are Talossa-related)

Perhaps David V, who seems to be a long-time follower of Talossan affairs might be interested too...

Eoin, I'm assuming you're interested? So what would the best way to go about this be? Via email? Here on this forum? What works best for you?

I definitely support this initiative, and you can freely use this forum.

Baffling that you think being non-Talossans would save you from accusations of bias.

The main idea is that no Kingdom citizens would be able to say, "This history is invalid because it is written by a Republican!" and no Republic citizens would be able to say, "This history is invalid because it is written by a Royalist!" Instead, you can both unite and tell us we got it all wrong!

You'd be surprised at exactly how some folk would react, I suspect...

It's not a matter of who's possibly writing a pan-Talossan history (except if it's written by the grumpy Founder of the Nationette).
It's a matter of providing a set of scenic views and interpretations of the Talossan history that most readers will accept... good luck. ;-)

Hey, what about having different people write essays on different sections of Talossan history and compiling them into a book? It wouldn't claim to be unbiased or definitive, but it would be a nice way to see what Talossans think about their own history. Maybe those who have the contact info of old-growther citizens could even get them to contribute or something like that. Thoughts on that?

Yeah. What happened to Metairia and Laurier recently? And John McGarry...

JJ is Senior Justice of the Cort pu Inalt but pretty inactive. Dan is still in semi-regular touch with some Kingdom cits (and maybe Republicans? don't know). McGarry did reactivate over in the Kingdom but has been quiet since...occasional contact, but not for a while

Well, and it wouldn't just have to be old-growthers. I think it'd be cool to have contributions from all across the board - be they from the Kingdom or the Republic, brand-new citizen, veteran, or former citizen, politically active or inactive, it matters not.
We could have one question to serve as a prompt and get everybody's response to it, or we could just have people write a contribution on a Talossa-related topic. Either way, I'd be willing to compile it and publish a *.pdf document.

Presently I'm muchly distracted by outer-Talossan affairs, but thinking about it, writing down some concise memories of my term as second President of the Republic of Talossa could be fun. It would cover phases of the rise and sudden decay of the Neo-Peculiarist MRP, and some brief failed attempt of trying to knit formal contacts between the two Talossan heads of state would be in the panorama, too.
And then of course a history of the MRP, from its foundation to the dissolution, could be entertaining as well.
Hell, if these stories aren't written and collected, it is as if history didn't happen at all. One of the big features of Talossa, in spite of its perpetually oscillating bias, has been Ar Päts, the Talossan book of history. Without the howsoever biased reports about Talossa's long history the nationette might have fallen apart long ago.

Great idea! I'd be glad to contribute myself.

I typed up a quick Google Document that has the email address that you can send all submissions to as well as a brief explanation of the project. It might be nice to use as a reference for those that haven't read this thread. You can find it here: docs.google.com/Doc?id=dp5v3hq_0d9gr8r76. You can also just send your submission to nwhi3634 [at] gmail [dot] com. I'd also like ideas for the title of the project, if you have any. Please tell all the Talossans -- Kingdom or Republic, it matters not -- you can about this!
