Who here would be up for a chess tournament? You don't have to be good (I certainly am not), but I think it would be a fun addition to the cafe. So, who's up?

OK, now we have four people, the question is how to do it. I suggest schemingmind.com because a) I already have an account there (hehe) and b) you don't have to keep track of the moves yourself. Also, they have a nice customiseable interface and you can play chess variants if you want. Any other ideas?

When In last tried to play chess online I found it unbelievably hard to actually get around to doing it, so I'm passing this up. I know I am a bore.

I once played an online chess quickie with Miestrâ, using a Linux software whose name I don't remember. But most of you guys are sleeping when I'm awake, and working when I'm spending my leisure time. It is difficult to negotiate a time for online gaming with partners who are living on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, since usually I don't spend much time with the computer in the evening, because as a system admistrator I can do that for money throughout the business hours.
Briefly put, in the evenings (European time) I'm not interested in online tournaments.

BTW living in Australia, I know your problem.

Would Mancala be the Talossan Chess, or are its roots too far south?

I don't know if traditional Mancala is a Berber game but they do have their own version of the game. And their own version of Tic-Tac-Toe. You can read a brief description of the games by clicking here. I'm not sure if they are ancient rule sets or more modern ones. Hard to say which games could have come to Talossa along with the Anciînts.

Well, even if they're not true Taloçáit games, they are still useful alternatives to full-blown Futbol for the smaller Talossan Gatherings.

When I re-read the rules for Berber Tic-Tac-Toe, it reminded me of another game that I've played. That one I'm pretty good at and it's easy to set up. When I play, I use my finger rings as pieces. ;D And I think the board that is used is the same for both games.

Hm...
I'd be willing to partake in a panTalossan chess/mancala/berber tic-tac-toe tournament. I suck at chess, though...
